Knowledge as the Foundation – Standards for Sustainability

In the heart of Hanoi, a thousand-year-old cultural capital, the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam stands as the cradle of Vietnamese intellect, nurturing generations of talents for nearly a millennium. Not only is it the first university in Vietnam, but it also symbolizes an educational philosophy that emphasizes discipline, standards, and knowledge as the foundation – core values that help a nation remain resilient and develop sustainably.

This spirit, when placed in a modern context, finds a profound similarity with HSC CRANES – a Japanese brand of crawler cranes that represents precision, technical discipline, and absolute durability in the global lifting industry.

Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam: The Origin of National Education

In 1070, King Ly Thanh Tong ordered the construction of the Temple of Literature to honor Confucius, Chu Cong, and other Confucian sages, while also serving as an educational institution for the crown prince. Six years later, in 1076, King Ly Nhan Tong established Quoc Tu Giam next to the Temple of Literature, officially founding the highest state school of the feudal Vietnam.

Initially, Quoc Tu Giam was reserved for the children of royalty and officials. By 1253, under the Tran dynasty, the doors of knowledge were opened to talented scholars from across the country – marking a significant advancement in the educational philosophy that values talent.

A Place for Cultivating Excellence and Educational Standards

Through the Ly, Tran, Le, and Nguyen dynasties, the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam was not only a training ground for talents but also a standard for Vietnamese education. Renowned teachers like Chu Van An, honored as a symbol of an exemplary teacher, left a profound legacy regarding:

Character

Integrity

Social Responsibility

In particular, in 1484, the Le Thanh Tong dynasty erected 82 Doctoral Stone Tablets, inscribing the names of those who passed the national examinations from 1442 to 1779. These 82 stone tablets – now recognized as a World Documentary Heritage – not only commemorate talented individuals but also reflect a consistent viewpoint:

Talented individuals are the vital force of the nation.

A Symbol of Knowledge, Discipline, and Sustainability

The entire complex of the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, with Khuê Văn Các, Thiên Quang Well, Doctoral Stone Tablets, and the Thái Học area, reflects a consistent value system:

Learning goes hand in hand with practice

Knowledge is tied to discipline

Achievements must be built on a foundation of standards

Today, the site is not only a cultural and tourist destination but also a place to honor outstanding students and introduce the cultural heritage of Vietnam to international friends.

HSC CRANES – 70 Years of Standards in Japanese Lifting Industry

If Quoc Tu Giam is the cradle of national intellect, then HSC CRANES (Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Cranes) is a testament to how the Japanese establish technical standards through discipline, precision, and long-term thinking.

Originating in 1949, HSC is the culmination of two industrial “pillars” of Japan: Sumitomo and Hitachi. From the very beginning, the crawler cranes developed by these two corporations set new standards for:

Safety

Durability

Reliability

From Joint Venture to Global Brand

In 2001, Sumitomo and Hitachi officially established the joint venture Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co., Ltd., marking a strategic turning point in the journey to conquer the global market.

From 2002 to 2017, a series of crawler crane models such as SCX700, SCX800, SCX1200-3, SCX2000, SCX3500-3 were launched, widely trusted in Japan, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Notably, the SCX1200-3 received the Good Design Award, affirming the balance between technical performance and industrial aesthetics.

Repositioning – Maturity – Sustainability

In 2018, the company officially adopted the name HSC CRANES, with a new identity and a global vision. The spirit of “Made in Japan – Built for the World” is clearly expressed through:

The SCX-3 generation of cranes with smart control technology

Fuel-saving capabilities

Increasing environmental standards

Safety systems centered on human beings

By 2022, HSC CRANES became a strategic branch within the Sumitomo Heavy Industries ecosystem – one of the oldest and most prestigious industrial groups in Japan.

Intersection of Values: Knowledge – Discipline – Standards

Between the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam and HSC CRANES, there is a clear intersection:

All sustainable achievements begin with knowledge and discipline.

Quoc Tu Giam cultivates individuals through education and ethics

HSC CRANES constructs projects with precision and technical responsibility

Both do not chase after the momentary but build values through rigorous standards and long-term vision.

Message for April – Standards as the Foundation for the Future

Quoc Tu Giam maintains the virtuous path
HSC sets standards for a sustainable future.

April is a reminder that: To go far, one must learn thoroughly. To stand firm, one must do it right from the foundation.
